Hasankeyf, one of the world's most ancient cities, stands under threat of becoming a modern day Atlantis if Turkey succeeds in building a massive hydro-electric dam on the Tigris river. The largely Kurdish population living in the area will also be displaced. Some say as many as 55,000 people will be pushed out of their homes and relocated to prefabricated communities, or have no other choice but to migrate to cities, both scenarios offering little opportunity for remunerable employment.
