CARE International has helped to supply refugees with different cooking tools and methods that economize wood, but often as in the case of the save 80, refugees just sell them and continue their traditional cooking practices. ..Twice a day, a truck travels some 60 kilometers outside the camps to fetch firewood for the Darfuri refugees who have been living in UNHCR camps for the last four years. The rapid influx of refugees has caused an environmental crisis. It is estimated that within one year, firewood sources will be exhausted in Eastern Chad.
